What types of messages are considered emergency messages?
Emergencies are considered any event that poses a safety risk to the campus community.
For example, the most common use of RazALERT will be to communicate when the university
is closed due to inclement weather. Other types of emergencies may include unexpected
occurrences such as earthquakes or power outages, or any unexpected event that poses
danger or puts your safety at risk.
How will I identify incoming messages from RazALERT system?
Text messages sent from RazALERT are sent using something called short codes. When you receive a text via a short code, you’ll receive a message from either 67283 or 226787. We strongly encourage you to save this number in your phone address book after you receive your first message. This way, in future emergencies, the message will be more recognizable as an official communication from the university. If your carrier or phone does not support short code messaging, messages you receive will appear to come from email@example.com.
Email messages sent from RazALERT will be sent from the email address: firstname.lastname@example.org. Please be sure this email address is not blacklisted or blocked by your email providers.
How do I prevent alerts from being delivered to junk mail?
Email messages sent from RazALERT will be sent from the email address: email@example.com. After you configure your alerts the first time, check your email software and make sure this email address is an approved email you wish to receive.
How do I sign up for emergency alerts?
If you are a student or member of the faculty and staff of the University of Arkansas, you are automatically enrolled in our emergency notification system to recieve emails. Faculty and staff will also have their office phones subscribed. You can manage your preferred methods of receiving these notifications by logging into your ISIS or BASIS account.
Are there other alerts that the University will send me? Can I select which alerts I receive?
The University of Arkansas will contact you in cases of an emergency, inclement weather, or other situations where the campus will be closed. On occasion you will receive an email only notification for outreach purposes.
From what number will these text messages display?
You will see 67283 or 226787 as the text messaging number sending you the confirmation message and all subsequent messages. Please save this number and program it as RazALERT or the University of Arkansas so that you can quickly recognize this number as the official source of the University's messages. Phone Caller-ID will read 479-587-8820.
How do I opt to not receive text messages?
You may select to not receive text messages at any time by texting "STOP" to 67283.
I opted out of text messages, how do I opt back in?
You can opt back in at any time by texting "SUBSCRIBE" to 67283.
My parents or spouse or other family would like to receive emergency alerts as well. Can they opt-in as well?
No. At this time we only support one phone number per student.
Will I be charged for the text messages I receive or send to the emergency notification system?
Text messages will be processed through your mobile provider according to your plan. Remember to make sure that your plan allows for you to receive text messages. Ask your provider for more information.
If I change my mobile service provider, do I need to opt in again?
If you change your mobile number, please log in to ISIS or BASIS and update your contact details. If you’ve changed providers, but your number hasn’t changed, you may want to update your carrier information in your subscription settings as well.
This step is not required—it will eventually be updated by the mobile carrier in Rave Alert, but this update may take a few weeks to reflect in the system. To ensure you do not miss any emergency messages, you may also simply log in to the system and update your carrier information in your settings directly.
Can I receive alerts via TTY/TTD services?
Wow, all these emergency situations sound really scary. How likely are they to really happen?
Typically, most of the situations that would call for a campus-wide alert are going to be weather-related (such as icy roads or the very rare tornado). However, due to the tragedic acts of violence in the higher education community across the nation we have all become very concerned with how emergencies are dealt, especially in regards to students' safety.
Will the University sell my information or use it in a non-emergency situation?
